Nail in the tire
The first day i took it out the rear bike tire got nailed. Damn it, its got only 130 miles on it. Now because i spend all this money on the bike, im going to plug it. Normally i would replace it but this is too expensive right now. Some friends of mine have a really good plug gun and said they pluged some 3 or 4 tires so far and it worked fine.
Anyone here had any experience with this?

Re: Nail in the tire
IMO I would never ride a bike with a plugged tire.

Re: Nail in the tire
I am going to buy a plugged tire. I have read as long as it is a straight through puncture and not a rip, and there is no damage to the sidewall, then it is safe to use. Already several posts mentioned getting another 5000-6000 miles after the plug.
My question to those who plugged their tire: what is the fastest your rode and for how long?

Re: Nail in the tire
I have a plug in my back tire now for the past 2 months and I do rolling burnouts on it. But having one in the front is a different story!

Re: Nail in the tire
I got a new pilot power front and a used rear with an inside plug. I did a trackday today at Firebird Raceway. I put about 60 miles on at the track and got up to speeds of 110. I now have complete confidence on an inside plug. I will post some pictures of the tire soon.

Re: Nail in the tire
you can plug it but eventualy the plug will pull out. Better off just patching it.

That tire survived that trackday but I wouldn't count on it lasting too long on the street if you also use your bike as a daily commuter.
Tires is one of the few things I would skimp on. A plugged/patched tire is only a temporary fix. I'd get a new one ASAP. Just don't want to hear about you going down because your plugged tire went flat on you when you in the middle of your ride.
